Grab’s Public Affairs team advocates for tech friendly, inclusive and sustainable development of the countries we operate in. We build partnerships with the public sector in support of national policy agendas, engage constructively with government and other stakeholders on public policy discussions, and drive initiatives to harness the positive potential of technology to drive impact at scale across Southeast Asia. We work closely with different departments across Grab, from public relations, marketing, to business and tech teams in support of Grab’s mission.

Get to know the Role

The Public Affairs Manager plays the leading role within the public affairs team in the Philippines in developing and executing our communications strategy in support of our advocacy and thought leadership objectives. The manager works closely with both topic experts within the public affairs team as well as across Grab. The Manager reports to the Director of Public Affairs in the Philippines. The role provides development opportunities to other roles within the Public Affairs and larger Grab team both in the Philippines and beyond.

The Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Working closely with the policy and PR teams, develop and execute strategic communications strategies and plans, in order to advance Grab’s policy and advocacy objectives; priority target audience are government and legislators on areas related to Grab’s businesses
  • Develop and execute public affairs thought leadership strategies and plans, in order to raise government awareness of Grab as a trusted thought partner; includes developing and maintaining content (e.g. policy position papers, op-eds etc.) and events / platforms (e.g. dialogues, forums etc.) on key topics to catalyze conversations and foster meaningful engagements on key topics of interest
  • Manage community groups

The Must-Haves:

  • Deep understanding of public sector communications in the Philippines
  • Deep understanding of the communications landscape in the Philippines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong strategic and problem solving skills, including ability to independently take ownership of a problem and develop a clear strategy to achieve defined objectives, with a resourceful and flexible approach to problem-solving
  • Strong project management skills to be able to coordinate across internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful execution
  • Comfortable multitasking and managing a wide range of activities in portfolio, from strategy planning to managing vendors
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and uncertainty and confidently coping with a fast paced working environment
  • At least 6-8 years of experience with a mix of Public and / or government affairs in either public policy, regulatory, strategic advisory, Public relations or brand communications, crisis/issues management, Reputation marketing and/ or strategic communications, Digital marketing, social media, Planning and partnership/project management
  • Candidates with experience in the tech industry may find it easier to make the transition into the company and role
  • Strong knowledge of technology policy issues, with the ability to identify broader social and business implications in issues
  • Passionate about making a positive impact in the community and/or on public policy issues

The Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience in a wide range of communications channels, including social media, events, communities, etc.
  • Experience managing digital channels and tactics (e.g. LinkedIn, SEO)
  • Experience managing community group
  • Writing skill e.g. drafting op-ed pieces
  • Event planning e.g. industry / policy forums
